Elie Hirschfeld is known throughout New York City and the world for his real estate development contributions. No less important, however, are his philanthropic and artistic interests. Charity efforts have long been a priority for Mr. Hirschfeld, and he is a longtime supporter of healthcare, education, medicine, and Jewish causes. He created the Hirschfeld Family Foundation specifically to support of the philanthropic causes that are of deep personal interest. And his efforts do not end with the foundation. Mr. Hirschfeld serves as a trustee of several New York City hospitals, including Beth Israel, St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals, while serving as trustee emeritus of Long Island University and his alma mater, Brown University. And in May of 2016, Brown University announced the naming of the Elie Hirschfeld Building on campus.

Mr. Hirschfeld holds positions on the Board of Directors or Steering Committees of many other landmark organizations, such as The Rockefeller University Council, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center President’s Council, New York University’s Real Estate Roundtable and The Central Park Conservancy. During the Park East Synagogue visit with Pope Francesco at the Great Synagogue of Rome on January 17, 2016, Elie Hirschfeld went in representation of his neighborhood synagogue.

A passionate art collector, the collection of Elie Hirschfeld focuses on original art scenes of New York City. Highlights include important works by Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Christo, Frank Stella, Norman Rockwell, and Georgia O’Keeffe, among many others. His latest acquisition is a piece by Francoise Gilot, famed female French painter, and former muse of Picasso.

Theater is another passion of Elie Hirschfeld, and he serves as a Tony Award voting member of The Broadway League. He has produced several Broadway shows, including Flashdance, The Fantasticks, David Mamet’s Oleanna, Equus, and Passing Strange, for which Mr. Hirschfeld received a Best Musical Tony Award nomination.

(Elie Hirschfeld is married to Sarah J. Schlesinger, and has five children: four sons and one daughter. David Hirschfeld, Benjamin Hirschfeld, Daniella Hirschfeld, Matthew Hirschfeld, and Jonathan Hirschfeld.)
