Elie Hirschfeld: A Diverse Legacy
A legacy of hotels, commercial properties, retail complexes and residences has established Manhattan mogul Elie Hirschfeld as a fixture in the history of New York City real estate development. In addition to his development interests though, Mr. Hirschfeld is many other things. Philanthropist, art collector, theater producer, athlete, and family man (Elie Hirschfeld has five children, and his married to Dr. Sarah J. Schlesinger) are a few other well-deserved titles.
The Hirschfeld Foundation supports charitable causes of particular concern to Elie Hirschfeld, such as children’s health, Jewish causes, and education.
Elie Hirschfeld’s art collection is impressive and significant. His acquisitions focus on original New York City scenes, as depicted by a diverse range of artists. Legendary painters such as Mark Rothko, Frank Stella, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall, Keith Haring, Christo, and Georgia O’Keeffe are all represented in this important collection. Hirschfeld’s latest acquisition is a piece by Francoise Gilot, former Picasso muse turned famed French painter.
During the Park East Synagogue visit with Pope Francesco at the Great Synagogue of Rome on January 17, 2016, Elie Hirschfeld went in representation of his neighborhood synagogue.
Mr. Hirschfeld serves in numerous positions with important New York City cultural organizations and hospitals. He is present on the board of directors of landmark institutions such as Lincoln Center’s President’s Council, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Rockefeller University Council, The Central Park Conservancy, and New York University’s Real Estate Roundtable.
